Habilitation

A habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) serves to formally establish an individual's ability to represent an academic subject in research and teaching independently and responsibly.

The habilitation grants an individual the official authorization to lecture in Germany in the subject for which the qualification is awarded and the right to use the title "Privatdozentin" or "Privatdozent".
